The genuinely great Hannah Gadbsy is continuing her march into non-retirement thanks to the recently-premiered Douglas, Gadsby’s on-stage follow-up to the career-defining and universally acclaimed Nanette, which wound up taking the world by storm thanks to a remarkable Netflix special.
In addition to an extended run at the upcoming Melbourne International Comedy Festival (which is as sold out as sold out can be), Gadsby is already planning on touring the show throughout the United States over the coming months, with a raft of shows on that tour already sold out as well.
Fortunately for those of you who are neither in the Northern Hemisphere nor some sort of Comedy Festival wizard, your turn with Douglas will come later in the year; Gadsby has this morning revealed a raft of Australian tour dates that will bring the show to Antipodean shores throughout this coming December.
Gadsby will return to Australia with Douglas for a run of shows in Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart, and at the iconic Sydney Opera House, with tickets to all shows going on sale this coming Friday.
While Nanette was named for a random barista, Douglas takes its name from Gadsby’s “very specific” and beloved dog, who was originally supposed to be named Dougal, so the story goes.
Thematically the show reportedly has very little to do with dogs, but given the kind of form Gadsby is currently in, that should matter very little.
