Australian Greens councillor for Victoria’s Yarra City, Anab Mohamud, has been accused of entering into a brawl with a trans woman outside Chasers Nightclub, where she proceeded to allegedly yell homophobic and transphobic slurs such as “I will make sure all these faggots die”, according to a police statement made by a witness.
On May 10, it was reported that Mohamud was allegedly ‘attacked’ outside of the popular gay club, and sustained facial injuries bad enough to require immediate hospitalisation.
However, ten days later, it has now been alleged in a police statement made by a witness that Mohamud first grabbed the woman by the hair while she was behind the bars of the venues smoking section.
According to The Age, who obtained video footage of the fight, the woman used an emergency door to leave the venue, and proceeded to engage in an altercation with Mohamud.
After the fight occurred between the two, Mohamud is alleged to have yelled transphobic and homophobic slurs, as well as threats of violence.
“[Mohamud] told me numerous times to ‘bring that bitch back, I’ll fuck her up’,” a Chasers nightclub guard alleges in an official statement to the VIC police.
“She has also yelled out various things, such as ‘fuck the LG family’ and also said something in what I believe was in Arabic and not understandable, followed by words along the line of, ‘I swear to Allah if I lose my eye I will make sure all these faggots die.”
In another statement to the police, one of the managers of Poof Doof (which is hosted by Chasers) has alleged that there was a male accompanying Mohamud, who yelled “do you know who the fuck she is? You’ve messed with the wrong woman. She knows all the gangs, they will fuck you up,” to his face.
VIC Police are currently investigating the claims made against Mohamud and the man who accompanied her.
Councillor Mohamud has since taken leave as she recovers from eye injuries sustained in the brawl with the woman, according to Yarra City council.
Now all we can do is wait for the results of the investigation, but these are some pretty fked claims to be made against anyone, let alone a Greens councillor.
