Government Criticised For Approving $600,000 Kirribilli House Gardening Contract

The Federal government has been criticised today over the approval of Prime Ministerial Sydney residence Kirribilli House‘s new gardening contract, costing $600,000 over three years.

$200,000 per year for you, lush lawns, and none for the taxpayer, bye.

The costs of maintaining Kirribilli House’s extensive grounds have risen to about $17,000 per month – from $12,000 per month a few years ago, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Kirribilli House’s gardens are listed on the Commonwealth Heritage list and need strict maintaining to be preserved, a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s department told Fairfax.

The sheer cost of such an operation, unloaded onto the taxpayer, was criticised by ALP spokesperson Pat Conroy, saying:

“It’s not just the fertiliser that stinks at the Prime Minister’s house…Tony Abbott has doubled the price of the gardening contract for his Sydney residence and this is in addition to the luxury renovations inside Kirribilli House.”

Conroy called Prime Minister Abbott a “hypocrite” over the spending. The Guardian also reports $6.4 million has been spent on Kirribilli House since Abbott’s election in September 2013, which is reportedly double the figure allotted to spending on the residence.

Enjoy subsidising those lifestyle choices.
