Sailor Tom Slingsby has won Australia’s second Gold Medal at the London Games after winning the Laser class sailing, thereby earning the admiration of Gold-desperate Australian Olympics followers, Twitter kudos from the Prime Minister, and taking the wind out of the sails of the hyped British sailing team.
Slingsby’s win makes the second Gold Medal overall, and the first individual Gold for the Australian Olympic team, shooting the sport of sailing to the top position on Australia’s Most Liked Sports. The impact of Slingsby’s fantastic victory was powerful enough to warrant a personal tweet of congratulations from Julia Gillard, who made special mention of the sailor’s red hair:
