‘Go Back to Where You Came From’ Returns To SBS Tonight

After the first series of Go Back to Where You Came From gave SBS its highest ratings of 2011, the program that explores Australians’ attitudes to asylum seekers, returns tonight for the Series 2 premiere. While the first season documented the journey of six ordinary Australians and their confronting travels to some of the world’s most dangerous countries, this time around it will follow six prominent faces from Australian politics, television and radio documentary, each of whom have varying opinions about this highly contentious Australian issue.

The participants are an interesting bunch including Angry Anderson (“I don’t accept the boat people at all. Send them home.”), writer/broadcaster/activist Catherine Deveny, divisive talkback radio personality Michael Smith, model/actress Imogen Bailey (“what’s the price of somebody’s life to win a vote?”), former Commonwealth Ombudsman Allan Asher, and Howard government cabinet minister Peter Reith.

They will head to Christmas Island to observe what life is like living within the walls of a Detention Centre, and from there travel to Mogadishu and Kabul, some of the world’s most dangerous cities. Can’t wait to see Angry Anderson cry like a baby!

The first episode in the three-part series begins tonight, Tuesday 28 August at 8.30pm on SBS One. If you tune in (and you should because this is confronting but very necessary television) do join us here for the live blog and on Twitter at hashtag #GoBackSBS.
