WELL THERE YA GO: Gladys Berejiklian’s Government Has Secured A Majority

The Berejiklian government has successfully secured a majority in New South Wales after winning a 47th seat in the lower house of Parliament.

Though it was clear from Saturday that the Coalition had won the election, it was still up in the air whether it was going to be a full majority government. But, with the call that Dubbo would be retained by the Nationals despite a nearly 20% swing against them, the  majority was assured.

ABC election analyst Antony Green said that while preferences had not been tallied, “the current first-preference tallies in the centres, combined with available preference flows and scrutineer reports all point to Nationals candidate Dugald Saunders winning the seat by around 1,500 votes.”

This means the Berejiklian government will be capable of governing without relying on the support of the crossbench.

At present, there has been very little movement in seats. Labor has gained two seats – Coogee and Lismore – and the Shooters Fishers and Farmers have also gained two: Barwon and Murray

The seat of East Hills is still very much in play. As of the time of publishing, the Libs were nudging ahead with 50.7% of the two-party-preferred vote, with 75.7% of the vote counted.

There’s your result, NSW: four more years of Gladys.
