George Clooney, Blanchett, Bill Murray Star In Trailer For Nazi Era Film ‘Monuments Men’

Auteur of his own IRL journey and films he also stars in George Clooney has released a trailer for his upcoming film starring George Clooney, Monuments Men
Based on the intriguing I Can’t Believe It’s Not Fiction story set during Nazi Germany and World War II, the film follows an allied group’s adventure, tasked with preserving monuments, fine art and archives during a time when cultural artefacts were in legitimate peril. They burnt books, you guys. Books. As George Stout (Clooney) says to his fellow keeper of the arts superhero played by Matt Damon, expressing the gravity of the situation, “If you destroy an entire generation of people’s culture, it’s as if they never existed. That’s what Hitler wants, and it’s the one thing we can’t allow.”
With the official synopsis being, “In a race against time, a crew of art historians and museum curators unite to recover renowned works of art stolen by Nazis before Hitler destroys themMonuments Men sounds like it will be a cross between Captain Planet and Inglorious Basterds—except with significantly less on camera gouging of skin, but significantly more Bill Murray. A healthy compromise.
The trailer shows us Cate Blanchett’s convincing German accent, Bill Murray struggling over a wall, John Goodman wielding a gun, Bob Balaban asking, “So we get to shoot some Nazis?” and Matt Damon accidentally stepping on a land mine. Praise this all-star cast <3
But hang on a sec, let me figure something out here:
‘Based on a true story’ + December release date + WWII setting + Nazis + George Clooney + Cate Blanchett = …the most stinking pile of thinly veiled Oscar Bait I’ve ever seen. Nice!
Monuments Men is slated for a December 18 release.
