Very Normal Gender Reveal Party Goes Viral After Enlisting A Live Alligator

Gender reveal parties ain’t just cupcakes and ribbons, folks. The ubiquitous trend of parents heralding their child’s arrival with blue or pink tomfoolery has been criticised for its binary take on gender identity and, well, for being a little bit naff.

Still, you could usually count on gender reveal parties to be safe places free of giant carnivorous reptiles. Until now.

The Kliebert family of Louisiana has gone viral for using a live and unrestrained alligator in their gender reveal festivities, and it’s patently obvious why: Mike Kliebert can be seen coaxing the gator to open its powerful jaws, before putting a dyed melon into its mouth. The ancient beast clenches, sending blue globules flying. Onlookers cheer at the sight.

Meanwhile, the gator waddles over to a kid who seems far, far too comfortable lying on the grass next to a finely-tuned killing machine. Kliebert, a reptile wrangler who actually operates tours of alligator habitats, then subdues the beastie.

Congratulations to the happy family, we guess.

The video, posted over the weekend, has been viewed nearly 2.5 million times. It remains to be seen if Australians will react with their own interpretation of the video, but we can’t imagine salties would be much keener on the experience than gators.

Regardless, Australia has its own new spin on the event. You do you, folks.
