AFL Player Gary Rohan Reveals His Unborn Baby’s Devastating Diagnosis

Gary Rohan Baby Anencephaly

Sydney Swans speedster Gary Rohan and his wife Amie announced via a cute-as-hell Instagram post that they’re preggo with twins, but the news was incredibly bittersweet. In the accompanying caption, the AFL player revealed that one of their unborn twins has been diagnosed with a fatal birth defect, and its life is “destined to be cut short”.

The condition, called anencephaly, means that parts of the baby’s scalp, skull and brain don’t develop in the womb. After the bub is born, it can live anywhere from a few moments to a few hours, but as Gary puts it: “Babies born with anencephaly are not compatible with life.”

It’s seriously gut-wrenching news, and Gary shares that the couple got the diagnosis at their 11-week scan. After trying to process it privately, the 26-year-old says that the pair decided to share their story because they “want to talk about it with others”.

Talking about our situation with people has been our therapy, letting our emotions out has been the best thing for us personally. We would love for anyone who has been affected by anencephaly themselves or know of others affected by anencephaly to please contact us.

For two people going through the worst time of their lives, it’s pretty incredible that they were brave enough to share their story. You can see the entire post below:

Amie is due to give birth in May, and shared the same pic on her own profile, along with a link to read more about anencephaly.

Our hearts go out to the Rohans and their two precious bebes.
