Max Von Sydow, A.K.A. The Three Eyed Raven In ‘Game Of Thrones’, Dies Age 90

Swedish actor Max von Sydow, who played the Three Eyed Raven on Game of Thrones, has died age 90. He passed away on Sunday, according to his representatives. “It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max,” Diamond Management said in a statement.

Younger audiences might mainly know von Sydow from Game of Thrones – or else as Lor San Tekka, killed by Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens – but the twice-Oscar nominated actor had a long and storied career, appearing in Pelle the Conqueror, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Seventh Seal, and iconic horror film The Exorcist. In fact, he had more than 100 acting credits across films, TV series and games to his name.

“Farewell to a legendary artist of unparalleled depth and versatility,” Mark Hamill said on Twitter.

“Max Von Sydow, such an iconic presence in cinema for seven decades, it seemed like he’d always be with us,” director Edgar Wright said on Twitter.

“He changed the face of international film with Bergman, played Christ, fought the devil, pressed the HOT HAIL button & was Oscar nominated for a silent performance. A god.”
