Game Of Thrones & Fargo Lead 2014 Emmy Nominations

In a sign that the times truly are a-changin’ in the harsh landscape of television, the nominations for the 66th Emmy Awards were dominated by premium cable TV, and subscription streaming services, with regular ole’ network broadcast TV almost left completely in the dust.

Announced by Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly, the nominations included HBO scoring a whopping 99 – far ahead of second place getter CBS on 47 – with Netflix scoring 31, most of which were in key categories.
As far as individual shows are concerned, juggernaut Game of Thrones took out the most nominations of any show with 19, followed by newcomer (the absolutely freaking excellent) Fargo on 18, American Horror Story: Coven on 17, Breaking Bad‘s swansong score 16, and HBO‘s The Normal Heart managed to pick up 15. Hit favourites True Detective and Orange is the New Black each picked up 10 nods from the academy.
The Emmy Awards will be handed out on Tuesday August 26th Australian time, with Late Night host Seth Meyers serving as host.
