Fuck Yeah, Politicians Can Now Breastfeed In The House Of Representatives

Women are finally allowed to bring their kids into the House of Representatives, and breastfeed during operations.

And like, while that’s really cool and everyone’s very,
… it’s still kinda hard to believe it took until 2016 for that change to come through.
You know, because this has been happening for a while, ya feel? Many women have no other option than to work full-time jobs *while* they assist with continuing on the human race. It’s the mother of all juggling acts (lol), and this childless writer is personally dumbfounded by any and all women who manage to handle both at the same time.
Labor MP Kirstie Marshall made headlines in 2003 when she was ejected from the Lower House for breastfeeding her child in the chamber (pictured above), as well as Liberal frontbencher Kelly O’Dwyer in 2015, who was told to ‘express more milk to avoid missing her parliamentary duties’ by Scott Buchholz.
Surprisingly enough, this change was helped across the line by Liberal MP Christopher Pyne, in a bid to bring Parliament “up to speed with modern workplaces”.
“As the Leader of the House of Representatives, I want to see as many women entering parliament as possible and for them to not be deterred by any antiquated rules or practices that currently govern how our parliament operates.

There is absolutely no reason that rules should remain in place which make life in politics and the Parliament more difficult for women”.
Pyne is encouraging the Senate, and all state government chambers to follow the lead too, because apparently it’s kinda an easy change to make:

“While this significant change only requires a single sentence to be amended in the rule book, I hope it sends a clear message.”

Gosh, what a strange yet refreshing change to agree with Chris Pyne. Interesting. We feel weird.
