Friends Raise $26k To Bring Home Body Of QLD Woman Hit By Car In Scotland

A 21-year-old Queensland woman has tragically died after being struck by a car while hitchhiking in Scotland.

Maddy Rice, 21, was heading home to Kinloch Lodge, where she worked as a receptionist, at around 1:15am local time when the accident occurred. The driver of the car was uninjured.
Rice was originally from Noosa and was working and living on the Isle of Skye with her boyfriend, Joe Perry. The director of Kinloch Lodge described her as a “wonderful and beautiful person”:
“It is absolutely heartbreaking. We are all utterly devastated at the tragic and sudden loss of Maddy. She was devoted to her wonderful partner, Joe, and our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to him and her family.”

A friend of Rice’s started a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of bringing her body home for a funeral, as Rice did not have travel insurance that would cover it, which was up to $26,000 by Wednesday afternoon.
