Calling All Plant Heauxs, The NSW Govt Has Started Giving Free Trees To Sydney Households

Trees!

The NSW Government is legit just giving away 26,500 free trees to households across greater Sydney. Yes botany bitches, you read that right.

Households in Sydney can apply to receive up to three trees, with the option to choose from two varieties of bottle brush and lilli pilli. You can even opt for a combo of both, if you’re so inclined.

The trees are small and come in pots, but with a little TLC they’ll grow big in no time. The only catch is that numbers are limited, so the free plants are only available on a first come, first served basis. In other words: get in quick.

“Our Free Tree Giveaway with Bunnings is open to all 33 local government areas across Greater Sydney, giving 10,500 eligible households a tree to plant in their yard,” Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob stokes said in a statement.

“The varieties available will change every month, so keep an eye out for native trees, flowering trees and even some fruit trees.”

You can register to recieve your three free plant babies at the Service NSW planning portal. Just log in, click new, select Free Tree Application, and fill out your deets. You’ll then be notified when they’re ready to be picked up from your local Bunnings. You can find out more about the scheme here.

The move is part of the state government’s plan to make Sydney cool and shady, just like your nemesis with a better taste in music than you. To that end, the NSW government is also funding local councils to plant a further 20,000 new trees.

The goal is to plant a million trees by next year. By then we should have bottlebrushes coming out our wahzoos.

It’s gonna be a shady street summer. You’re hearing it more and more.
