Flexible & Beneficial Side-Job Options For Struggling University Students

You learn a lot when you begin uni, it’s kind of the whole point. Much of what young adults learn during this time is based around money, or a lack thereof. PEDESTRIAN.TV has partnered with CommBank because they’re helping you be a little more free financially with their exclusive discounts called Student Options. It gives students a helping hand to save some money while your nose is in the books. CommBank’s also giving away $10,000 just for being on Student Options. For more info, head to CommBank’s website HERE.

Struggling to pay bills while studying is essentially a rite of passage for uni students. Not only do you have to: face making new friends, get yourself up for crack-of-dawn lectures, chuck all-nighters for assignments, and learn extensive theories in a matter of weeks to score well in an exam – no, you also have to really feel the burn of financial burden. To lighten the severity of said burn, we’re highlighting some top-notch side-jobs perfect for students that are both flexible and profitable.

UBER
Uber represents basic economics and entrepreneurism in its truest form.
If you’ve got a car at your disposal (one that’s under 10 years old and in decent shape), and an iPhone, then you’ve got the means to make some coin. If you don’t have either, there’s plenty of affiliates that can sort both for a fee. Plenty of uni students drive with Uber as a side-job, chiefly due to its flexibility. You know Uber’s great, we know Uber’s great. For more information, head HERE.
INSTAGRAMMER/SOCIAL INFLUENCER
As much as it pains us to come to terms with the realities of 2016, we’ve got to admit that there’s a truckload of money to be made in placing your love of social media in a niche. An Instagrammer, known commercially as a social influencer, is someone who excels in taking photos of either themselves, or scenery, and can share them with the masses via a twice-daily upload.
Surely there’s not much money to be made, though? They’re just posting nice pictures online?

Brian DiFeo, co-founder of the The Mobile Media Lab, told The Penny Hoarder
“On average, an Instagrammer that’s got a good 100,000 followers, is consistently putting up great photos and their audience really likes what they’re doing, can be making between $5,000 and $10,000 a month.”
WE’RE NOT.
You earn that cash from posting photos of you looking swell, and doing interesting things, while holding or wearing a product. The pay will either be per post, or less commonly, a dollar-per-like arrangement (do the math for a photo with 20K likes).
Lastly, you can earn the huge sums of money from selling your account altogether. Accounts with around 500,000 likes can be offloaded for six figure amounts.
How do you become a social influencer?
– Post everyday.
– Use relevant #Hashtags (don’t overdo it, though).
– Develop a style of photo, and ensure they’re all of equal quality.
– Keep your posts spread out (avoid clogging up feeds and make use of peak-periods).
– Engage with your loyal fans (reply to them, make them feel included).
There’s now even agencies that’ll help you develop your following, as well as connect you with sponsors. Enter Australia’s undisputed, reigning queen of public relations, Roxy Jacenko. She recognised the growth in demand for social influencers and opened a new branch of her firm dubbed, The Ministry Of Talent. They conduct casting days in Sydney and Melbourne quite frequently.

E-LANCING
Everything that’s done online is now e-something – freelancing online, for instance, is called e-lancing.
E-lancing is a great and flexible way for you students to make some money on the side AND sharpen the skills you’re currently studying. You’re really ticking every box by doing it.
A great service to employ on your quest for e-lancing domination is Fiverr (as in, “lend me a Fiverr – I need to buy some chewing gum,” Fiverr). Most of its jobs are on offer for five dollars, hence Fiverr.
Fiverr is an example of a business utilising the Gig-economy: temporary work driven by independent freelancers purchased instantly and – to be honest – for a lot less than it’s probably worth in the regular marketplace.
This service offers gigs that fall under service verticals (e.g. graphic design and coding). It’s essentially a middleman that connects service providers with people looking for that particular service.
With over three million services listed on site, there will be a way to monetise your skill set. For more information, head HERE.
Hopefully we’ve provided you with some viable options to aid in fighting off a lack of income at uni. You could probably do with a lil’ bit more financial help though, so hit up CommBank’s Student Options HERE for exclusive student discounts and a chance to win $10,000.
