Fleurieu Milk Admit Listening To Anti-Halal Protestors Was Stupid

All of us remember that halal hullabaloo that happened with Fleurieu Milk And Yoghurt Company late last year, yeah?

They pulled their halal certification after a bunch of anti-halal protestors got really pissy on social media about “yoghurt funding terrorism” (because that’s a completely normal, logical sentence) and consequently lost their major deal to supply Emirates Airlines.
Now, they’ve realised they made a slight mistake – not only did they lose a $50K contract with a major airline, but they also lost a helluva lot of customers who don’t agree with Islamophobia, and got some pretty negative press about the whole shebang. So they are trying to make things right: they have reinstated their halal certification, and have just closed the deal with Emirates once again.

Nick Hutchinson, an Fleurieu Milk Company executive, said to the ABC,

“We should have stayed tight, made a stand for Australia as a country that accepts and appreciates different ways of life,” he said.

“I know full well that there will be a lot of people out there that are extremely disappointed with our decision and will be quite vocal about it, but for us we think we’ve done the right thing.”

Mr Hutchinson said he felt as though his company wasn’t sending the right message by leaving out a religious group from being able to enjoy its products.

“We have now gone back on that and we have regained halal certification and are quite proud to say that anybody of any sex, age, race, religion as well is able to enjoy our products.”
