FINALLY: VIC Taxis Quit Anti-Uber Campaign, Focus On Own Shortcomings

CHURCH.
Basketball legend LeBron James‘ simple yet eloquent phrasing exemplifies exactly how to feel about Victoria’s Taxi Association announcement that they are finally quitting their anti-Uber campaign, and actually focussing on their own damn problems.
“Really?!” you cry. “They’re actually going to address the multitude of issues that were driving hundreds of thousands of Aussies towards Uber? They’re acknowledging their shortcomings? Well I never!”
We know, we’re totally shocked about this total 180º, too. The Association’s chief executive, David Samuel, had this to say about the industry’s change of mindset:
“In 2015, if we’re not providing a service people want to use, then the amount of competition will see our industry decline. We won’t let that occur. We’ve been around for about 150 years and have responded to many challenges over that time, and we’ll do it again.”

“We must make sure there’s a platform for people to share their concerns, and we expect criticism.”
Oof, mercy me; there’ll be criticism. When you’ve had a complete monopoly for 150 years, then throw what was essentially an adult version of a toddler’s temper tantrum when a someone comes along and plays your game better than you – there’s gonna be a complaint or two.
But hey, better late than never, we suppose. We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of changes are made, to hopefully enable a hire-car industry where Uber and taxis coexist peacefully, safely, legally, and fairly.
