Festival Aficionado Owl Eyes Solves The Season’s Most Common Dilemmas

Owl Eyes is currently on the festival circuit with Flight Facilities, so we’re pretty sure she’s tackled more than her share of festival dramas, like what to do when you’re down to your last $25, and what she’d give up while saving for festival tickets. Along with Owl Eyes, PEDESTRIAN.TV partnered with NAB to teach us about how to maximise their festival time, as well as how to #SpendBetter. On top of that, NAB are offering one lucky reader a chance to win $1,000 in a NAB Classic Banking Account, #goals.

Brooke Addamo, AKA Owl Eyes, is a regular tour aficionado, and with her favourite tours being Falls, Laneway and Coachella, as well as Dublin’s Body + Soul festival, and Metropolis, so you know she’s got some totally legit taste. In fact, here’s how legit Falls and Laneway are.
Falls Festival, aka one of summer’s ~can’t miss~ events, kicks off the new year (and the ~new you~) as you get down and dirty with nature, to sick beats provided by some of the hottest musical acts out here. This year, Falls is serving up an enviable line up that includes Bloc Party, Foals, DisclosureGary Clark Jr, Toro y Moi, Young Fathers, Django Django, Courtney Barnett, Halsey, Hilltop Hoods, Hiatus Kaiyote, Soak, Jarryd James, Elliphant, Kurt Vile And The Violators, Mac DeMarco, The Maccabees, Meg Mac, Oh Wonder, Paul Kelly & Merri Soul Sessions ft. Clairy Browne, Dan Sultan, Kira Piru, Vika & Linda Bull, RÜFÜS, Seth Sentry, Alpine, The Avener, Birds Of Tokyo, BØRNS, Gang Of Youths, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, Little May, Wombats, Wavves, Leon Bridges, and more. Held in Lorne in Victoria, Marion Bay in Tassie, and Byron Bay in NSW, this lineup is a certified good time, and one is worth the hike to get there.
“I just had a great time at Falls when I played there in 2013, the crowd was great – they even sang me happy birthday! It was just a really memorable moment,” Brooke said.
Meanwhile, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival will only take up one day of your life, but the lineup is still able to pack quite the punch in its limited time. As an added bonus, you don’t have to worry about pesky things like personal hygiene or how you even set up a tent.
“I always love the line-up of Laneway, they always have the most acts I want to see, and it’s a really chill day. There’s not too many crowds, and the layout’s really good, so you can walk around from stage to stage really easily.”
In Feb 2016, Laneway will offer up FlumeChvrches, Grimes, Hermitude, Beach House, The InternetViolent Soho, Big Scary, The Smith Street Band, Japanese Wallpaper, Purity Ring, Hudson Mohawke, Thundercat, Vince Staples, Silicon, DMA’s, FIDLAR, DIIV, METZ, QT, Sophie, High Tension, Methyl Ethel, and there’s plenty more mad talent on offer. You can check them out here.

We sat her down, clutching a list of our worst-case-festival-scenarios, and asked her how for advice. Here’s what she had to say.
What are the three most essential things to bring with you to any music festival?
“Sunglasses, a jacket and make-up wipes.”
You’re at a music festival and down to your last $25. What do you spend it on?
“A gozleme and a bottle of water.”
What do you do if you lose your friends and your phone is dead?
“Pick a meeting spot at the start of the day that you meet at if you get separated.”
How do you choose when your two favourite music festival acts are on at the same time?
“Try to catch half of both.”
How many social media posts is too many when you’re at a music festival?
“It depends on the content. If it’s a selfie or crappy picture of a far away stage, one is enough.”
What do you do when your friend is having a terrible time and won’t stop complaining?
“Buy them a drink?”
What do you do when you’ve gone too hard, too early, and you need to fix your life because all your favourite acts are about to hit the stage?
“Take a moment away from the crowds. Drink some water, wash your face and fix your mascara.”
What do you do when you’re in the mosh and trapped behind some random giant?
“Get low and sneak in front.”

What would you go without while saving for festival tickets?
“I’d go without a new pair of shoes in order to save for festival tickets!”
This leads us to the question of the day.
