Extreme Rooftop Stunt Artist & Social Media Star Dies After 62-Storey Fall

A Chinese daredevil known for dangling off skyscrapers without safety harnesses has died while attempting one of his trademark exploits.

Wu Yongning, 26, fell 62 storeys to his death on November 8 while working on a new stunt in the city of Changsha.

Followers of Wu, who built a large social media presence on Chinese site Weibo, first raised concerns when his updates came to a stop. However, Wu’s girlfriend has only recently confirmed the death of the urban explorer and ‘rooftopper.’

Local media outlets state Wu was attempting a challenge in order to win the equivalent of $20,000, with a family member telling the South China Post that he intended to use the money to pay for his upcoming wedding and his mother’s medical treatment.

Despite sharing his exploits with a growing audience on social media, Wu issued warnings to viewers not to replicate his stunts.

His death comes after the death of 25-year-old New Yorker Christopher Serrano, who died last year while attempting to ride the exterior of a train.

Serrano was known for similar stunts to Wu, including a shot of his feet dangling over the ledge of a building overlooking Times Square.
