Travellers Warned To Arrive Early At Aussie Airports As Security Ramps Up

Travellers have been warned to expect big delays today at all major Australian airports, with security ramping up following yesterday’s counter-terror raids in Sydney.

Four men were taken into custody after the raids, with police alleging that they uncovered a plot to “take down” a passenger plane with an improvised explosive device.

Addressing media this morning, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said that “the threat of terrorism is very real” and that security measures have been “enhanced and intensified.”

“Some of the measures will be obvious to the public, some will not be,” he said of the current security arrangements. “Travellers should be prepared for additional scrutiny at screening points.”

With that in mind, just how badly borked will your travel plans be today?

For one, domestic and international travellers are advised to arrive at least two hours early for all flights, to allow for “additional scrutiny” as they make their way to flights.

The Prime Minister has also advised travellers to “limit the amount of carry on and checked baggage so far as possible, as this will help to ensure that security screening is efficient.”

“Our number one priority is to keep you safe,” he said, adding that there is no reason to be alarmed and that “those travelling should go about their business with confidence.”

Plan your travel accordingly, folks.
