Evidence That Led Cops To Claremont Killer After 20 Yrs Has Been Released

Yesterday, a man was charged for two of the three murders in the WA Claremont Killings, Australia’s longest-running and most expensive murder investigation.
48-year-old junior athletics coach Bradley Robert Edwards has been charged with the murders of Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon in 1996 and 1997 respectively. The disappearance of a third woman in 1996, Sarah Spiers, remains an open case, and her body has never been found.
While previous reports had no information as to how the man was found and arrested after 20 years of investigation, News Corp are now exclusively reporting that the major evidence can be released.
They report that a woman’s silk dressing gown stolen off a washing line 28 years ago was the major evidence that led them to the man.
Reportedly, in 1988 (8 years before Sarah Spiers was abducted), a white kimono was dropped by an intruder, who had broken into the home of a 18-year-old Huntingdale woman. The intruder had attempted to rape her, but her screams caused him to flee, and he dropped the kimono on his way out of the house.
This case was never solved, and the kimono was placed into evidence, where it’s been sitting for the past 20 years.
The WA Police team, still working on the case after 20 years, tested all the old evidence with new technology, including the kimono.
The DNA sample that came back matched with samples on the police database. It matched a sample that was found on Ciara Glennon‘s body, and another sample on a 17-year-old woman who was assaulted at the Karrakatta Cemetery in 1995.
Although the sample didn’t give police a name, News Corp says the breakthrough resulted in the arrest of Kewdale man Bradley Robert Edwards in a matter of weeks.
He gave a DNA sample immediately after his arrest, and positive results came back within 12 hours, at which point he was formally charged.
Police now say that the investigation into the disappearance of Sarah Spiers will continue.
