Fucking Tony Fucking Abbott, for christ’s sake.
The man who is absolutely not Prime Minister anymore opened his stupid fucking mouth on the subject of the since-defeated plebiscite on same-sex marriage earlier this morning, going so far as to say that it was a vote on political correctness, religious freedoms, basically everything other than… y’know… same-sex marriage.
If you’re worried about religious freedom and freedom of speech, vote no, and if you don’t like political correctness, vote no because voting no will help to stop political correctness in its tracks.
There it bloody is. It’s not about two people in love getting married; it never has been. It’s about political correctness. Give me strength.
Quite obviously the opinions from the man who once tried to Knight the Queen’s husband have not been received with the warmest of ears.
In fact, Abbott’s own sister Christine Forster has gone in on her ~beloved~ brother’s opinions in a series of Tweets posted earlier this afternoon.
Forster, a City of Sydney councillor and member of the Liberal Party with her own brow-furrowing policies, indirectly took Tone to task by insisting that it’s not so much about political correctness or threatening religious freedoms as it is more about… y’know… people.
Actual people.
Being able to marry the person they love.
Unbelievable concept, we know.
If you value mutual respect: vote yes. If you want all Australians to be equal: vote yes. If you believe in free speech: vote yes #auspol

If you want the person you love to be in every sense a part of your family: vote yes #marriageequality #auspol

If you don’t believe your relationships (or anyone else’s) are second rate: vote yes #marriageequality #auspol

Forster herself is openly gay and in a long-term relationship with her partner, Virginia Edwards; a relationship that Forster’s brother, Big Tone, is actively campaigning to prevent from becoming a marriage.
Hoo boy, to be a fly on the wall at that Christmas lunch.
