Murder Victim Eurydice Dixon’s Great Uncle Pays Tribute To “Born Performer”

Eurydice Dixon’s great uncle has remembered her as a “born performer” as the country mourns the death of a unique and up-and-coming talent in the comedy community.

Eric Dixon told 9News his great niece was “just a fun, lovely and engaging person”.

“You see these things on TV but all of a sudden it’s in your family – the whole stark reality.”

Dixon had just finished a stand-up gig at the Highlander Bar in the city’s centre when she decided to head home at around 10:30PM, Tuesday night.

On Thursday morning, Victoria Police confirmed the identity of the body found in Princes Park, Carlton North as 22-year-old Dixon. Her partner of four-months later revealed her final text message to him that night saying, “I’m almost home safe, HBU.”

Tony Magnuson told The Age,  “She was happy and content. She gave me a hug, blew me a kiss and said she was going for a walk. She was on top of the world because her gig went so well.”

Today, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews released a statement in response to Dixon’s alleged rape and murder saying violence against women in Australia will never truly change until we stop blaming the victim when the blame should solely be on the attacker.

The statement comes amid public criticism directed at the Victoria Police response to Dixon’s death. Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said “people need to be aware of their own personal security and just be mindful of their surroundings.”

On June 18, the Reclaim Princes Park vigil will be held between 5:30PM and 7:30PM in honour of Dixon’s life and to reaffirm a woman’s right to “walk home whenever we want, wherever we want.”

19-year-old Broadmeadows man, Jaymes Todd, was charged with one count of rape and one count of murder at Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday. He will appear in court again on October 3.
