Disney has recently given a lot of ammunition to people who say that Hollywood is all out of new ideas, with its current agenda being to simply remake its classic '90s animated films in live action format.
We've got Beauty And The Beast due for release soon, with live action versions of Aladdin and Mulan soon to follow, but the latter will diverge from the original in at least one key way - there'll be no songs this time.
Director Niki Caro made this surprising reveal during an interview with MovieFone, the New Zealander saying simply that there are "no songs right now" in the film, much to the "horror" of her children.
The 'Be Our Guest' scene in Beauty And The Beast reportedly cost more to make than the entire budget of director Bill Condon's last movie, so it could be that Disney is just keen to skip musical sequences for a while.
Nonetheless, what Mulan lacks in 'I'll Make A Man Out Of You', it apparently makes up for in bracing action sequences. "It's a big, girly martial arts epic," Caro said. "It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving."
Disney has confirmed that its upcoming Guy Richie-directed Aladdin is going to be a musical, although the tale of a "street hustler made good" will still have Richie's signature "highly-energised" feel.
Beauty And The Beast is out March 23 in Australia, so you can get your fix of classic Disney musical numbers then.
