Emma Chambers Of ‘The Vicar Of Dibley’ And ‘Notting Hill’ Has Died Aged 53

Actress Emma Chambers, who starred in the long-running British comedy series The Vicar Of Dibley, and appeared alongside Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts in the 1999 film Notting Hill, has died at the age of 53.

Her agent John Grant confirmed the sad news in a statement to the media, saying:

“We are very sad to announce the untimely death, from natural causes, of the acclaimed actress Emma Chambers. Over the years, Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work. She brought laughter and joy to many, and will be greatly missed. At this difficult time we ask that the privacy of the family and loved ones be respected.”

Hugh Grant remembered his late co-star in a Tweet overnight, saying: “Emma Chambers was a hilarious and very warm person and of course a brilliant actress. Very sad news.”

Chambers’ most recognisable role was in The Vicar Of Dibley, where she played the role of Alice Tinker between 1994 and 2007, appearing in every episode of the show as well as four specials for Comic Relief.

The star of the series, Dawn French, remembered her as a “unique and beautiful spark”, adding “I loved her … a lot.”
