The ABC’s Emma Alberici Almost Got Her Fingers Severed After A Blender Mishap

Pro tip for any aspiring amateur chefs out there: Fingers may be for burning, but they’re sure as shit not for jamming up a live blender. ABC journo/TV host Emma Alberici found that out the hard way over the weekend, revealing she nearly lost a handful of digits over the weekend in a culinary adventure gone very, very bung.

Alberici revealed the injury on Twitter earlier this morning, which was the result of an attempt to clean a stick blender that just-so-happened to be still plugged in and turned on.

Alberici stated that her fingers only managed to survive the ordeal thanks to the quick and skilled work of the surgical team at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney.

Photos attached to the Tweet show a blood-spattered power outlet at the scene of the incident.

Honestly, “don’t put fingers in stick blender blade to wash it while it’s still plugged in to the power” is one of those things that should probably be pasted up in every kitchen.

It’s the kind of advice you only get once it’s too late, y’know?

Here’s hoping Alberici’s fingers reattach themselves swiftly, painlessly, and whatever puree/soup/pesto she was whizzing together was still tasty on the second, one-handed attempt.
