Drink Driving Victim’s Final NYE Facebook Post Is Devastating, Inspiring

We live in a world where last tweets now occupy the same cultural cache as last words, and anybody’s random online musings could stand in posterity as their final statement to the planet.

That means the only positive to take out of Matthew DeRemer’s untimely death is that his final statement, posted to Facebook, has resonated so deeply, with so many.

DeRemer posted the message on New Year’s Eve, and excitedly greeted the year to come. Hours later, he was struck by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle in his home state of FloridaHe died at the scene.

We’ll refrain from paraphrasing this one; it’s thought-provoking in its entirety.

Last day of 2015!!!! For me I’ll be meditating through all I do, on this entire year. I’ve lost, I’ve gained, family is…

Sifting through the thousands of comments the status has spurred is worthwhile, too. Not too often does the internet get to see such a stunned, genuine reaction to a stranger’s death.
You also don’t need to stray far from the post to work out the type of guy he seemed to be: a military veteran, bike lover, strong willed, comfortable in his faith, optimistic, and a man who was close to his family before being felled by a drunk driver. Fuck.

RIP Matthew.
