Dreamworld, Still Open, Is Retiring The Massive Tower Of Terror Ride Next Week

Dreamworld, the weird fourth Queensland theme park that remains open and operational despite some reasonably recent unpleasantness, has this morning announced their trademark Tower Of Terror II ride will be officially retired at the end of next week.

The ride’s last day of operation will be Sunday November 3rd, according to social media posts from a few short moments ago.

The Tower itself will remain in place, with the adjoining Giant Drop ride set to remain operational for the time being. However the Tower of Terror’s tracks will be gradually removed over time to make way for future planned attractions at the park.

The original Tower of Terror ride opened to the public in 1997. At the time, it was the tallest and fastest roller coaster “of its kind” in the world, and the first roller coaster in the world to exceed speeds of 160km/h.

In late 2010, the ride was relaunched as Tower Of Terror II, with the launch pod sending riders out facing backwards, meaning the vertical plummet from the top of the tower was taken face-first, rather than in reverse like the original ride.

Park officials are promising “two massive new attractions” will arrive at Dreamworld at some point in the near future.
