Mother Of Dreamworld Tragedy Victims Pens Open Letter Ahead Of Anniversary

The mother of two people killed on Dreamworld’s Thunder River Rapids last October has penned an open letter on her loss, saying “it has been difficult to face this tragedy and getting out of bed can be a major achievement.”

Discussing the death of Kate Goodchild, Luke Dorsett, and his partner Roozi Araghi, Kim Dorsett’s words in The Courier-Mail come just ahead of the tragedy’s one year anniversary.

“They could never have known that the decision to visit Dreamworld again on the 25th would shatter hundreds of lives and make worldwide headlines,” Dorsett said.

On the loss experienced by her grandchildren, Dorsett said that Luke and Roozi were “the perfect uncles,” adding “Kate’s girls will never have those hugs and kisses from their mum that every child should have.

“The baby of course will have no memory of her beautiful mum, but we will forever tell her how much she was loved if only for a brief time.”

Regarding her loss, Dorsett said “a mother should never see her children buried, no matter what the circumstance,” and “it is a fact of my life that I visit my family at the cemetery, no longer able to drop in to annoy them.”

Goodchild, Dorsett, Araghi, and mother-of-two Cindy Low died when the raft they were in flipped on a conveyor belt. A police investigation cleared Dreamworld’s operators of criminal charges relating to the event, but Workplace Health and Safety Queensland may still move ahead with its own charges.

A coronial hearing is expected to be held next year.
