So Here’s A Room Full Of World Leaders Openly Laughing At Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has discovered that a key point of his campaign rally speeches, which often sends his fans into rapturous applause, is not so well-received among his peers.

Read: a hall full of world leaders straight-up laughed at him for claiming his presidency has been successful.

Speaking before the UN General Assembly in New York City overnight, Trump made the claim that “In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”

Murmurs sprung up as soon as he finished that sentence. They bubbled into chuckles as Trump added a casual “so true.”

At that point, the room burst into open laughter, either misinterpreting his “so true” as brazen sarcasm or yet another demonstration of shameless and undeserved self-adulation.

“I didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s okay,” Trump said.

Outside of that singular moment of global embarrassment, Trump’s speech reiterated his administration’s rejection of global institutions… like the UN itself, actually.

He again promoted the ideals of isolationism while also laying into nations like Iran, for its perceived aggression towards the United States, and China, for its continuing role in what Trump has labelled an out-and-out trade war.

Those matters aren’t quite so funny to delegates at the General Assembly. In his own speech, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani slammed the economic sanctions laid on his nation by the US.

“What Iran says is clear: no war, no sanctions, no threats, no bullying; just acting according to the law and the fulfilment of obligations,” Rouhani said.

One thing Trump hasn’t achieved in his first two years: yet another new war in the Middle East. There’s still time, though.
