A Deer Is On The Run In Fitzroy And How’s That For Your Allocated Two Hour Exercise Outside?

A deer is on the run and freeballing on the streets of Fitzroy right now and it’s not even bloody Christmas. Rudolph, man, what you doing hun?

According to a video shared by Twitter user Charlie Cross (@charliecross24), a deer has been spotted running around Fitzroy’s Johnston St, near Biba Academy of Hairdressing off the corner of Johnston near Gore St.

In the video below, the Rudolph look-a-like is seen dancing in a circle around Johnston before doing a full 180 and headbutt diving towards a side street. Truly, that’s one way to spend your hour-long mandated time outside during lockdown.

“We had just finished a run actually and we were just stretching on the side of Johnston St and we just looked in the direction of Smith St and this huge deer—it had full-on antlers—was running so fast down Johnston St,” Rosie Burke, a witness at the Christmas in June scene and Charlie’s partner, tells PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“Then it kinda just ran in front of a car then ran down a side street. It was obviously very terrified and it was really sad to see but we were like, ‘imagine if this was Christmas time. One of Santa’s reindeers has gone on the run!’

“We saw this police car with a huge siren go past—I had never seen a police car go this fast before—but they were going the opposite way. We were thinking someone reported the deer from the direction it had come from and then they were going that way but it had gone down a side street by then.”

Rosie then reported the runway deer in the Facebook group Fitzroy Neighbourhood Network and discovered that the poor Christmas critter was apparently on the run for 24 hours. According to the group, via her, the deer has since been found.

It’s currently unclear exactly where the deer came from, but Rosie told us the group believe it came from the Collingwood Children’s Farm. We’ve reached out to the Fitzroy Neighbour Network to clarify this and will update the story as soon as we hear back.
