Spare A Thought For This Billionaire Self-Isolating On His Megayacht In The Caribbean

Billionaires – they’re just like us! Even they must self-isolate during the coronavirus pandemic, and they too are in need of thoughts and prayers.

David Geffen, the billionaire music producer and co-founder of DreamWorks, has found himself in the Grenadines aboard his 450-ft megayacht Rising Sun.

The $590 million ship is manned by a 46-person crew and is complete with a basketball court, swimming pool and wine cellar.

To share his plight with the rest of us, Geffen took to Instagram to share photos of his quarantine quarters. His caption was heart-warming: “Isolated in the Grenadines avoiding the virus. I’m hoping everybody is staying safe.”

While his account has now been switched to private, the posts have been immortalised on Twitter for all to see.

Fellow ultra-wealthy investor Wendi Deng Murdoch (ex-wife of Rupert) left a bunch of heart-eye emojis in the comments, perhaps as a show of solidarity among the elite.

But as people lose their jobs due to the coronavrus pandemic and find themselves stuck at home with housemates or family in self-isolation, Geffen’s post came as a slap in the face to many.

Understandably, the good folk of Twitter decided to give him a roast and a half.

It’s a nice boat, for sure. Just don’t be so tone-deaf and remember to wash those hands, David.
