David Attenborough, just everyone’s favourite voice from the television, has thrown his support behind the swathe of youth climate strikes happening around the world in an interview with Triple J’s Hack.

Speaking with Tom Tilley, Attenborough said that young people had very real concerns and were having their voices heard the only way they could:

Young people see things very clearly. The older you get, you start thinking, “Well, this… and then, on the other hand, there’s that.” But young people see things very clearly, and they are speaking very  clearly to politicians. But if they actually do something in the way that they have been doing, then politicians have to sit up and take notice.

You can say, “Well, it gets you nowhere, just stopping the traffic gets you nowhere.” It gets you noticed, it gets people to listen to what you say, and to notice that you’re important. And they are important, they are the people who are going to inherit the mess we’ve made.

In an earlier clip released from the interview, Attenborough singled out Australia’s responsibility with the Great Barrier Reef and just how shit a job our recent governments have been doing with that responsibility.
