Dave Hughes Dropped A Shitload Of Cash On Tonight’s Winning ‘Block’ Property

In what appears to be a first for the insanely successful renovation show The Block, the winning property has been bought by a surprise celebrity bidder: none other than Dave fucken Hughes.

He swooped in at auction yesterday and bought the five-bedroom place in Melbourne‘s Elsternwick for a cool $3.067 million – a full $447,000 over the reserve.

The winners, couple Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles, will walk away with the profits from the sale, plus $100,000 in prize money, which isn’t bloody bad for 12 weeks of reno work.

Other properties on the block sold for $3 million, $2.78 million, $2.65 million and $2.61 million, with the lowest profit on the day still coming in at an eye-water $95,000. Looking at all those millions in a row is actually quite upsetting. I suddenly understand why the nation as a whole is obsessed with this show.

As for Hughesy’s new digs, he seems pretty stoked with them – and admits that he kinda bought the place on a whim.

I don’t live too far away and I was driving past and I was thinking, ‘Gee, it’s a good spot, it’s a good house, it’s a good area’. And now we own it.

Whoopdedoo for you, mate. He and his family are reportedly planning to use the joint as an investment property, because of course.

If all this news is leaving you with a sense of overwhelming existential dread at your future prospects of home ownership and a massive hankering for overpriced brunch foods, take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some avocados to smash.
