DAMMIT ALL TO HELL: Uber Has Been Outlawed In Melbourne

Today, Uber has been effectively outlawed in Melbourne.

The decision came after recent case against 13 Uber drivers charged with ‘operating a commercial passenger vehicle without a license’ by the Taxi Service Commission – one of which was former manager of iconic Aussie 80s bands Split Enz & Men at Work, Nathan Brenner
Brenner was fined $900 without conviction, but he also refused to sign his good behaviour bond (which is reasonably badass, imho )
Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said this case has confirmed that Uber is an “illegal service”:
“We will have to work through those issues and continue to work with industry in the manner that we have been doing, and dealing with the regulatory issues that come from that.”
According to Newscorp, Brenner’s case was a test case which would set a precedent for the rest of the country.
Unfortunately for Uber-lovers (so, pretty much everyone in the damn country), this shitty precedent has been set, and that means outlawing one of the best, safest apps we have.
