Couple Facing Ban From Nepal After Getting Caught Faking Everest Climb

If you’re in a long-term relationship, you know it’s hard to find new stuff to do as a couple after a while, so why not do what these guys did and commit some minor fraud by pretending to have climbed Mount Everest?

Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod, a married couple who are both police constables in Pune in the Indian state of Maharashtra, are being investigated for falsifying photos documenting their climb to the highest point in the world.
Satyarup Siddhantha, a climber from Bangalore, noticed that the photos the couple used as evidence were doctored versions of photos from his actual climb to the summit.
Have a look for yourself – photos 1 and 2 are from Siddhantha while 3 and 4 were the clearly shopped versions the Rathods used to obtain their certificate from the Nepali Department of Tourism:
Well done to them for giving it a red hot go I guess (fraud, not the climb), but it looks like their certificates are set to be revoked and they’re likely to receive a 5 year ban from Nepal and a 10 year ban from mountaineering within Nepal.
Faking an Everest climb is technically not a crime but the authorities and the climbing community sure are not happy with it.
