Queen Elizabeth’s Last Remaining Corgi Has Passed Away At The Age Of 12

Corgi, Whisper, Queen Elizabeth

Famed corgi lover Queen Elizabeth was always known for the trail of small dogs following her around wherever she went, so this sad news truly marks the end of an era, with her last remaining purebred pup having passed away earlier this month at the age of 12.

The Queen adopted Whisper the corgi in 2016 after his previous owner, gamekeeper Bill Fenwick, passed away. They enjoyed two years together and were reportedly close friends, and Whisper was known as a “friendly chap” who would follow her around Buckingham Palace.

Whisper’s death comes six months after the passing of Willow, who was the last of the Queen’s original line of corgis. The line could be traced all the way back to Susan, her very first dog, who was a present given to her for her 18th birthday.

In the decades since then, Queen Elizabeth raised more than 30 of Susan’s descendants over 14 generations, but stopped breeding them several years ago, saying that she wished to be alive to mourn all of her dogs when they passed on.

The Queen has two pet dogs remaining, Candy and Vuldan, both of whom are dachshund-corgi mixes. We hope that they will continue to follow her around demanding treats and attention for many years to come.

Note that photos of Whisper are hard to come by, so the pupper pictured above is actually another very good pooch named Misty, who met the Queen during her Australian visit 2004.
