CONDRAGULATIONS: RuPaul Finally Wins An Emmy For RuPaul’s Drag Race

RuPaul has finally nabbed his first ever Emmy award. It’s just straight up wrong that it took eight-whole-entire-fabulous seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race to kick the academy into gear, but better late than never!
RuPaul won the award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program and dedicated the award “to outsiders everywhere. Brave souls who stick to their dreams and make the world a more colourful place.”
It’s being described as an ‘upset’ victory, after RuPaul said in a sanguine interview last month that he didn’t think he’d win:

“I really don’t expect to win. I’ve never said this out loud before, but I don’t really expect to. If feel like it’s almost like a gesture by the academy to say, ‘Hey, we are a part of this forward movement,’ but they’re still part of the establishment. And that’s fine!”

Fabulously, none of that held RuPaul back from a well deserved victory, rising above stiff competition from Heidi Klum, Jane Lynch and Steve Harvey
Sorry, Steve, but you’ve got plenty of Emmys already.

Accepting the award, RuPaul acknowledged he’d once said he’d “rather have an enema than an Emmy“, but added that “thanks to the Television Academy, I can have both!”
