Conan O’Brien’s Aussie Special Featured A Chat With Briggs On Indigenous Identity

Conan O’Brien‘s hotly anticipated Australian edition of the long-running travel series Conan Without Borders aired in the US yesterday, and as you’d expect there’s a fair bit to unpack from it. While the special featured the standard Conan-level comedic absurdity in segments where the lanky, beloved late night host absolutely mangled an Australian accent and had a run around with the Sydney Swans, the episode also featured a surprisingly candid and honest chat with the living legend that is Briggs.

O’Brien visited the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence in Redfern for a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony administered by Nigyampaa elder Uncle Graham King.

Following that, Conan sat down with Briggs (who should immediately be given Asshole Fraser Anning’s whisked-away spot in the Qantas Chairman’s Club thank you very much) for a candid chat about Briggs’ Indigenous identity, and the tattoos that adorn his arms representing that.

In the process, an unusually sincere Conan stated he believed Briggs was the “future of this country,” though he was quick to joke that “I realise my opinion carries no weight here.”

You can run your eyes over an edited version of the interview below.

The full version of the interview, which includes Conan laughing at Briggs’ very prominent Krusty the Clown tatty and inviting him to catch up again in Los Angeles, can be seen over at the Team Coco website.

There’s no word on when Conan Without Borders: Australia will be available to be seen by audiences here, though Netflix Australia does carry all past episodes of the series. So read into that what you will.
