Coast Guard Rescues Lunatic Who Tried To Run Across The Ocean In A Bubble

An ultra-marathon lover had his beautiful dream denied when the U.S. Coast Guard towed him back to land after he attempted to run from Florida to Bermuda in a clear plastic bubble. It is the second time this has happened. The second time.

Reza Baluchi was planning to literally run hamster-wheel style in this clear plastic bubble for five months at sea, where he wanted to eat protein bars, catch fish and sleep in a hammock. Temperatures inside the bubble could apparently reach 48ºC, which is, uh, quite hot? Not ideal for a running sea voyage.
Naturally, the Coast Guard thought that running to Bermuda inside a plastic oven while desperately searching for fish to eat was probably not a particularly safe endeavour, and they stopped him at the coast. They’re shooting out pass-ag tweets about how much of a burden on the taxpayer the rescue operation was.

They also tweeted a photo of the vessel which, if we’re honest, does not look incredibly seaworthy.

He did this in 2014 as well – but was found extremely disoriented in his bubble off the coast of Miami, demanding directions to Bermuda. Basically, it looks like his five month sea running plan is maybe not that good? Maybe he should stick to running on land.
If that’s not intense enough, perhaps stamp collecting?
