City2Surf Racegoers Not At All Happy About Branded Medals

As per usual, anyone who completed the City2Surf yesterday received a participation medal at the finish line.

As absolutely not per usual, this year those medals were adorned with a splashy red ‘Run Out Loud’ logo, and only a tiny engraved City2Surf logo on the back.

And guess what – nobody is fucking happy about it.

Run Out Loud is a Westpac initiative, so it *looks* like their sponsorship dollars pulled them medal naming rights.

On the left, we’ve got what City2Surf medals USED to look like, and on the far right, what finishers received yesterday.

Fair’s fair – mass events like the City2Surf rely on corporate sponsorship to function, but when the sponsorship / event balance is tipped too far in the direction of sponno dollars, the public is inclined to get well and truly ticked off.

Case in point:

And a little further down on the renamed Run Out Loud Facebook page, we get the same thing again:

We’ve certainly read the feedback on Facebook regarding all aspects of the event and have heard #loudandclear the comments on the finisher’s medals,” a spokesman from City2Surf told P.TV this morning, saying that #RunOutLoud was introduced after continual feedback from participants to be entertained from start to finish (Run Out Loud tents blasting music dotted the race course).

“The team pride themselves on delivering an amazing event experience for all and will absolutely take this on board as the designers put pen to paper for next year.”

MEANWHILE, if you entered yesterday, it looks like the results page has finally stopped crashing after a solid 16 hours of this bullshit:
