Cadbury Is Releasing A “Healthier” Chocolate For Some Godforsaken Reason

Cadbury Announces New Chocolate Formula That Has Less Sugar And More Fibre

Everyone’s fave chocolate brand Cadbury has announced they’ll be releasing a healthier version of their classic choccie blocks, and to be completely honest, I can not at all see the point. Just one woman’s take.

The new version will have 30% less sugar, which they achieved by upping the fibre instead of replacing it with artificial sweeteners, colours or preservatives.

It’s very tricky to reformulate chocolate because it’s just cocoa, sugar and milk and if you take one thing out, it changes the structure,” Glenn Caton, president of Northern Europe of Mondelēz International (they own Cadbury) told The Guardian, “We’ve used fibre as an alternative to some of the sugar and found it doesn’t have a negative impact on the taste or structure.

We’ve tested this with hundreds of consumers and they love it.

Look, I obviously haven’t tried it so maybe that’s true. Maybe. But regardless, sorry to the team of 20 scientists, nutritionists and chocolatiers who spent 2 years working on the new formula but, really, why?

One does not eat chocolate because you care about being healthy. If health was your aim you’d hunker down on a bowl of fruit. Or even be one of those weird people who eat that carob shit instead and try to claim it tastes just as good as the heavily processed stuff with all the sugar. For the record, I feel the same way about diet soft drinks.

If I’m going to do a thing, then good God I am going to do it right.

You don’t sit there feeling bloated and moody mid-period thinking ‘gosh I’d enjoy stuffing my face with chocolate right now, but if only there wasn’t so much sugar’ do you? Nope. You grab the biggest block you can find and you Go. To. Town. Well, I do. It’s future me’s problem to exercise away the consequences.

Sure, some are trying to claim that this will be great for people trying to diet, but actually no, in my 100% not-a-nutritionist opinion, it’s not. Thirty per cent less sugar does not a health food make, sorry about it.

As a chocolate enthusiast, this does offend me, but they’ve promised to also keep the current choccie block so I guess it’s ok. Brb, need to go buy chocolate.
