Chelsea Manning Spends 1st Day Of Freedom The Right Way: With Pizza & Booze

Chelsea Manning, the former intelligence officer who just walked free of military prison after seven years behind bars, has celebrated the occasion in a pretty understandable manner: by popping some bubbly and posting a damn confident headshot to her social media accounts.

The 29-year-old, who announced her gender transition while serving time for leaking a massive cache of classified military documents to Wikileaks, wrote “okay, so here I am everyone!!”

Manning, her representatives, and her supporters had criticised conditions in the all-male military detention facility in which she was held.

Along with stints in solitary confinement, Manning was not allowed to keep a traditionally feminine haircut behind bars, a move which she said limited her autonomy as a transgender individual.

Accompanying her image of some post-release champers, Manning wrote “here’s to freedom and a new beginning.”

Earlier, Manning had posted another couple of post-release shots, documenting the distinct pleasures of a new pair of Converse and some fresh pizza.

In an earlier statement given to ABC News, Manning wrote “as I rebuild my life, I remind myself not to relive the past.

“The past will always affect me, and I will keep that in mind while remembering that how it played out is only my starting point, not my final destination.”
