Man Arrested For Blackmailing Casey Donovan With “Threatening” Message

A man has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing Casey Donovan, after sending the singer and former Australian Idol winner a text message that has been described as “threatening.”

NSW Police said overnight that they had taken a 33-year-old man, believed to be a friend of Donovan’s, into custody. In a statement to media, they said:

“Police attached to Bankstown Local Area Command commenced an investigation, following reports from a 29-year-old woman, that she was allegedly being blackmailed. Following inquiries a 33-year-old man was arrested at a home in Lalor Park just after midnight on Tuesday January 23. He was taken to Bankstown Police station and charged with blackmail and use carriage service to menace.”

No further details of the man or his alleged offense were given.

Several years ago, Casey Donovan revealed that she had fallen victim to an online catfish and that her six-year relationship with a man named ‘Campbell‘ was a lie.

Donovan fell in love with ‘Campbell’ via phone and internet conversations, but when she went to visit him, was shocked to find a woman named Olga in his place.

Olga claimed to be friends with ‘Campbell’, saying he was too drunk to drive to their date so she had come in his place, an explanation that Donovan accepted.

The relationship continued for years, and Donovan even became engaged to ‘Campbell’ despite never having met him in person.

Recounting the experience, she said she became suspicious after discovering a mystery SIM card at Olga’s house, and it was then that the story began to unravel.

The truth, however, did not fully come out for another year. “Olga finally admitted she had been Campbell all along,” Donovan said. “It felt like my heart had been ripped out of my body.”
