No Current Link Between Murdered Aussie And Missing Teens, Canadian Police Say

Lucas Fowler

Canadian police say there is nothing to link the murder of Australian man Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend Chynna Deese to the disappearance of two teens and the death of a man some 450km southwest of where their bodies were found.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson Janelle Shoihet told reporters that investigations are underway in all three cases, but stopped short of connecting the incidents.

“At this point, we have nothing to indicate that their deaths are linked to any other active and ongoing investigations in the area, or if there is a heightened risk to public safety,” she added in a media release.

Fowler and Deese were found shot dead on July 15, near their abandoned van on a highway in remote British Columbia.

Shoihet released a composite sketch of a man wanted for questioning in regards to their death, after an eyewitness said she saw a bearded man talking with Fowler on the roadside.

The man is not thought to be a suspect in the investigation.

RCMP officers are also investigating the disappearance of Canadian teens Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, whose burned-out camper truck was found on July 19.

At the same time, investigators are working to confirm the identity of a man who was found dead some two kilometres from the truck. Authorities are questioning if that man was connected to the disappearance of McLeod and Schmegelsky.
