Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Star Cred Swells Further As Katey Sagal Joins Cast

Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s stunt casting is pretty impeccable. Already this season we’ve seen the likes of Bill Hader, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Anders Holm, Nick Offerman, Riki Lindhome and Mary Lynn Rajskub feature in small roles. And it would appear that the Peralta family tree is about to get a bit more star-power.

It’s been announced that legitimate TV legend Katey Sagal will join the cast in the role of Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg)’s mother.
Peralta’s family has already been the focus of an episode, with Jake’s estranged Dad, Roger (played by Bradley Whitford), appearing in the season two episode “Captain Peralta.”
Sagal will play Karen Peralta, and will appear in an episode that will air in early 2016, and will also feature the return of Whitford as Roger Peralta.
According to the show’s backstory, Jake’s Dad left the family at age 7, leaving Karen to raise Jake all by herself. So throwing them all back together in the same room is sure to create some fireworks.
Sagal is, of course, no stranger to playing matriarchal figures on TV, with extremely notable stints in both Married… With Children, 8 Simple Rules, and Sons of Anarchy under her belt.
Her most recent venture into TV was on the FX series The Bastard Executioner, which recently felt the executioner’s blade – copping the axe after just one season.
