A 10-year-old boy is recovering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder following an attempted Boxing Day home invasion and armed robbery in the Brisbane suburb of Browns Plains.
The boy’s 31-year-old father is also thought to have been grazed by a bullet during the incident, which saw two men storm the premises with a firearm and a machete just before 8pm.
It’s believed the gun was discharged during an altercation at the Ammons Street home.
The child was transported to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition, and his father was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with a wound to his abdomen.
Neither of the injuries are life-threatening.
A police dog assisting in investigations was injured at the scene after being bitten by a dog at the premises. The police dog’s handler was also injured separating the pair, sustaining lacerations.
The police dog was treated at a local vet, and its handler also received medical assistance.
Police recovered a firearm at the premises and have declared a crime scene, and are still on the lookout for the two male suspects. Anyone who has information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
