Break Out The Brolly, Sydney’s Gonna Cop Some Hella Heavy Rain Tomoz

And you thought hurricane season was over. After a record dry spell, the heavens are about to crack open over the skies of Sydney tomorrow, with the forecast calling for the city’s first lashing of heavy rain in over four months.

The good folk at the Bureau of Meteorology are predicting that the New South Wales capital is set to cop anywhere from 15 to 25mm of rain tomorrow morning, breaking a run of dry weather that stretches back some 76 days.

The record spell has seen Sydney sit through 76 straight days with rainfall measuring 2mm or less. Back further, the last time the city saw decent rain was on June 10th, when the city copped a soaking of 20mm in one day.

Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for heavy showers – and possibly storms – with the majority of rainfall predicted to come in the early hours of the morning.

If the 15-25mm arrives, that would represent more rainfall in Sydney than in the past two months combined. September was the driest on record for the city, and October has thus far been tracking in a similar direction. A good soaking tomorrow would help Sydney avoid two historic months back-to-back.

The bad news? The wet weather isn’t likely to stick around.

The Bureau forecasts that tomorrow’s rain will be cleared up by the afternoon, with the cool maximum temperatures steadily ramping back up to a top of 28 next Wednesday.

Enjoy the wet while it lasts, Sydney pals. Dust off the brolly. Go have a splash. Put those gumboots to good use.
