Bob Hawke’s Booze Collection Is Being Auctioned If Yr Keen To Take One For The Country

It was a sad day when the late, great Aussie PM Bob Hawke passed away in May this year. If you’re not quite ready to let go of the PM who previously held the world record for downing a beer, you can buy a piece of history this month as his booze collection goes up for auction.

Later this month, a plethora of Hawke’s most prized possessions from the Bob Hawke and Blanche d’Alpuget Mementos Curiosities Art and Design Collection will go up for auction. The auction will take place at the Paddington RSL Club on August 27 as his family begins the process of liquidating his assets.

The collection is expected to sell for about $250,000 and will include all of the interesting possessions that weren’t claimed by his family or by the Bob Hawke museum in Adelaide.

You can snap up a piece of history by purchasing framed photos, his old golf clubs or even a silver bowl that was given to him by Dick Cheney himself. It’s all going under the hammer, and for a measly $300-500 you can own a bottle of Bob Hawke Vintage Port, according to Domain.

Lone Figure in Gully, an artwork by Euan McLeod is expected to be the priciest piece of Hawkie’s collection with an estimated selling price of $14,000-18,000. But if you’re just in the market for some of his booze, cigars or his Versace ashtray, your wallet won’t be quite so empty.

According to auctioneer Andrew Shapiro, it’ll set you back five bucks to enter the auction, and from there you’ll be able to bid on all of the quirky memorabilia and snap up a piece of Aussie history.

“It is pretty exciting for us to be entrusted with the house of a former PM. I think people are curious about what was dear to his heart. We will be selling his desk and a lot of personal items given to him when he was prime minister,” Shapiro said.

The longest serving, and potentially most-loved Aussie PM sadly died in May at 89 years of age. He’s the guy that brought back universal healthcare (thank fuck for Medicare) and outlawed gender discrimination (yay women), among many other things. RIP Hawkie.

The full auction collection will be available for viewing on August 24 and 25 before it all goes under the hammer on August 27.
