Bill Cosby’s Wife Says Her Husband’s Guilty Verdict Was “Mob Justice” In Action

Bill Cosby‘s wife has railed against the supposed “lynch mob” that found her husband guilty, one week after he was actually found guilty – by a jury – of three counts of aggravated sexual assault.

Taking to Facebook, Camilla Cosby claimed her husband was put on a “trial by media”, comparing his being found guilty to America‘s historic and well-documented practise of finding black men guilty for crimes they did not commit.

“Bill Cosby was labelled as guilty because the media and accusers said so… period,” she wrote, claiming that his trial superseded the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. “Are the media now the people’s judges and juries? Since when are all accusers truthful?”

She says that in her husband’s case, “unproven accusations evolved into lynch mobs”, which stripped Cosby of all forms of income and decimated his legacy.

In fact, she compared him to an actual victim of a lynch mob, Emmet Till, the black teenager who was lynched in 1955 after a white woman falsely claimed he was flirting with her.

It’s a similar argument Cosby’s publicist Ebonee Benson made on Good Morning America, the day after the verdict was handed down. “Since when are all people honest?” she said. “And since when are all women honest? We can take a look at Emmett Till, for example. Since when are all people honest?”

The difference, of course, is that it’s not just one person accusing Cosby of sexual misconduct. It’s dozens and dozens of women who said the comedian drugged and sexually abused them.

Last week’s guilty verdict – found by a second trial, after the first one ended in a mistrial – came several years after Cosby was charged with the 2004 assault of Andrea Costand. A key difference from the first trial to the second was that the second time around, five other women who said Cosby also assaulted them were allowed to give testimony.

Most cases against Cosby had passed the statute of limitations long before the women were brave enough to come forward, but when Cosby was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault – each of which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years – it showed that “women are worthy of being believed,” according to fellow accuser Lili Bernard.

However, Camille Cosby is now asking for a criminal investigation of District Attorney Kevin Steele “and his cohorts”, describing them as “a homogenous group of exploitative and corrupt people” whose “primary purpose is to advance themselves professionally and economically at the expense of Mr. Cosby’s life.”

She also calls the accusers who came forward and the media that published their accounts as a “vicious, lying, self-absorbed paradigms of evilness.”

Okay.

Here’s that part of the statement:

I am publicly asking for a criminal investigation of that district attorney and his cohorts. This is a homogeneous group of exploitive and corrupt people, whose primary purpose is to advance themselves professionally and economically at the expense of Mr. Cosby’s life. If they can do this to Mr. Cosby, they can do so to anyone.

How much longer will we, the majority of the people, tolerate judicial, executive, legislative, media and corporate abuses of power? We, the majority of the people, must make America what it has declared itself to be….a democracy…not to be destroyed by vicious, lying, self-absorbed paradigms of evilness.

Once again, an innocent person has been found guilty based on an unthinking, unquestioning, unconstitutional frenzy propagated by the media and allowed to play out in a supposed court of law. This is mob justice, not real justice. This tragedy must be undone not just for Bill Cosby, but for the country.
